¿conocéis a las cinco mascotas que representarán a los Juegos Olímpicos de Pekín en el 2008?
Cada una de las cinco representa un aro olímpico y es de su mismo color. Son cinco simpáticos muñequitos, en los que han personalizado los cinco elementos tradicionales chinos: Metal, madera, agua, fuego y tierra.

Si os fijáis, las cinco mascotas tienen las dos sílabas de sus nombres repetidas, cosa usual en China, para llamar a las mascotas o a los niños. En China se los conoce como "fuwa" 福娃 que significa "Niños de la buena fortuna".

El Pez Beibei - color azul (lleva además una especie de olas como pelo) 贝贝Es chica, simboliza la prosperidad. En la cultura tradicional china, el pez representa prosperidad pues su ideograma (魚 / 鱼) se asemeja al de abundancia (餘 / 余).

El Panda Jingjing - color negro (coronan su cabeza tres flores de loto) 晶晶 Es chico y simboliza la felicidad. El panda es uno de los símbolos nacionales de China y del ambientalismo.

La Antorcha Huanhuan - color rojo (su pelo son llamas inspiradas en las cuevas de Mogao) 欢欢 Es chico y simboliza la pasión. Representa el Lema Olímpico «Citius, Altius, Fortius» (Más rápido, más alto, más fuerte).

El Antílope (tibetano) Yingying - color amarillo (su tocado está inspirado en las máscaras utilizadas en Qinghai, en la cultura tibetana) 迎迎. Es chico y simboliza la salud. El antílope es uno de los animales más veloces existentes.

La Golondrina Nini - color verde (su sombrero imita una cometa con forma de golondrina) 妮妮 Es chica y representa la buena fortuna. La golondrina es la "mensajera de la primavera" y por ende es un símbolo de buena fortuna. El ideograma de la golondrina (燕) es usado en el antiguo nombre de Beijing, Yanjing (燕京).

Y uniendo las primeras sílabas de los cinco, forman la frase: "Beijing Huanying Ni", que significa: "Pekín te da la bienvenida":

The centerpiece of the 2008 Summer Olympics will be the Beijing National Stadium, nicknamed the "Bird Nest" because of its nest-like skeletal structure.^[7] Construction of the venue began on December 24, 2003. The Guangdong Olympic Stadium was originally planned, constructed, and completed in 2001 for the Games, but a decision was made to construct a new stadium in Beijing. Government officials engaged architects worldwide in a design competition. A Swiss firm, Herzog & de Meuron Architekten AG, collaborated with China Architecture Design & Research Group to win the competition. The National Stadium will feature a lattice-like concrete skeleton forming the stadium bowl and will have a seating capacity of 80,000 people. Architects originally described the overall design as resembling a bird's nest with an immense ocular—an opening with a retractable roof over the stadium. However, in 2004, the idea of retractable roof was abandoned for economic and safety reasons. The Beijing National Stadium will be the site of the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the athletics events and soccer finals. The stadium's designer Ai Weiwei has since withdrawn his support for China's Olympic games, saying "he wants nothing to do with them anymore".

The Guangdong Olympic Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Guangzhou, China, 100 miles north of Hong Kong. It is currently used mostly for soccer matches. The stadium was built in 2001 and holds 80,012. The seats are multi-colored, positioned in multiple sections, and are connected via a ribbon pattern.

The Guangdong Olympic Stadium was opened to the public for the ninth National Games of the People's Republic of China in 2001. It was originally planned to be the centerpiece of the 2008 Summer Olympics^{[citation needed]} until a decision was made to construct the National Stadium in Beijing. The original design for the Guangdong Olympic Stadium was announced in 1999. Taking from Guangzhou's nickname, the Flower City, the American architectural firm of Ellerbe Becket designed Guangdong Olympic Stadium's sunscreen roof to resemble layers of petals on a flower. The design firm stated in its press release: "The stadium bowl grows out of the ground to a sculpted upper edge, like the petals of a flower. Floating above the bowl is a shimmering ribbon of roof flowing like a wave over the seats. It parts at the ends and holds the Olympic flame, suspended between the two ribbons. A hotel surrounds a circular opening in the roof that forms a vertical tower of light, which at night is visible for a great distance. The roof form undulates, making it different from any other stadium in China or the world."
